Reflections on Owen's Health Journey

We have entered the year strong! Although we ended 2025 with a scare, we are smarter for it. Since that scary week, Owen has been open about experiencing focal seizures. These are moments when he is still conscious. His neurologist has increased his anti-seizure medication to help manage his condition.

I had my own major breakthrough that has me feeling good. Owen and I have secured our tickets back to Japan! This is where he finds peace, where he feels at home. I need to dust off my camera for more documenting of our journey! It’s not as long as our last visit, but that’s okay. It’ll be time that will refill his cup and mine.

A Heartfelt Blessing

We had a huge blessing this week. Since Owen’s diagnosis, I have been using every hour of leave I earn for his care and appointments. I’ve been carefully managing my leave because I don’t have much. This week, I went to check when my W2 would be ready for tax filing. That’s when I discovered that I had received donations of leave. I’ve cried about it a few times, feeling so grateful that people took the time to help us.

Because the program is designed for anonymity, I cannot personally thank everyone. If you happen to be reading this and you donated, thank you for helping us carry this fight on. Even 15 minutes of donated leave is a tremendous lift while I continue to fight for an exception to policy at work. This would allow me some flexibility to provide care for Owen. Thank you! In this world, in this time, you have restored my belief that there is good.

Embracing the New Year

We have started the new year, the year of the fire horse (that’s me!), with a bang! The Muffin busted her chin last week and had her first stitches. We went to see the Spurs and the Lakers play (LA lost, boo!). Both our football teams are in the playoffs, although this may change tomorrow. I am looking forward to this year and am hopeful that we will make some more awesome memories.

The Importance of Community Support

In moments like these, I realize how vital community support is. It’s not just about the donations; it’s about knowing that others care. This journey can feel isolating at times, but knowing we have a network of support makes a world of difference. I encourage anyone going through a tough time to reach out. You might be surprised by the kindness of strangers.

Documenting Our Journey

As we prepare for our trip to Japan, I’m excited to document our experiences. Each moment, whether big or small, is a part of our story. I want to capture the smiles, the laughter, and even the challenges. Photography has always been a passion of mine, and now it serves a deeper purpose. It helps me reflect on our journey and share it with others who might be going through similar situations.

Looking Ahead

This year is filled with possibilities. I’m hopeful that we will create beautiful memories together. I want to focus on the little things that bring joy. Whether it’s a quiet moment at home or an adventure in Japan, I’m ready to embrace it all.

Let’s cherish every moment and support one another. Life is a journey, and I’m grateful to have Owen by my side. Together, we will navigate the ups and downs, celebrating each victory along the way.

Owen pulled his stuff out yesterday for the trip. The man is ready! Has his clothes ready to go, and emptied the refrigerator. Why this is significant is that we don’t fly for another several days! If
