If you know me and/or Owen well, you know we are competitive.
It’s something that brings out some deeply rooted emotions.
Maybe most people won’t understand the hate that was formed between the Lakers and the Celtics in the 80s. I grew up in that era. I went to the home Lakers games. I watched those Boston games on our tv. I grew up to be scarred by Bird. That parquet floor generates heat under my skin. Still.
My dad took me to Dodgers home games. He loved the Dodgers so much. If it wasnt Paul Harvey, it was a live or recorded Dodger game on sports radio in the car. I couldn’t stand baseball because I was there all the time and didn’t understand the game.
Fast forward, I marry a man that lived and loved baseball.
And so when he was deployed and living overseas in 2024, I felt bad that he was missing a pretty good run for his team. So being the good woman that I am, I told him that I’d provide him play by plays for all of his teams’ games.
In that 23-24 season, I followed the Red Sox. And I learned the game, I learned the players, I learned the strategy, I learned the curse and the emotions behind the Yankees. I learned to appreciate Big Papi. I learned to appreciate it all.
They went on to win the Workd Series that year. And I felt like I was there from day 1.
And so, I don’t ever think I’ll dislike the Red Sox.
But…
You are entering my hometown.
You are entering a stadium I grew up in.
And you are the visitor.
We will not be wearing the same colors.
It’s on.
