Fact: One out of every five motorists is uninsured.
I was driving home from work yesterday. Traffic is always insane at that time. I got into the right turning lane to get onto the 1560, always a very slow lane. As I approached the corner, I was jolted and heard a nice crunch. Yup, a young lady smashed the corner of my rear bumper.
No one was injured.
I called the PD and they told me I was good to move off to the closest parking lot to wait for a unit.
While we waited, I went to the young lady’s car to collect insurance info and I was met with, “why did you call police?”
“It is protocol. Do you have your insurance information?”
“But why did you call police? No one is injured.”
“You damaged my car.”
“I don’t have insurance. I’m trying to get it reinstated. But now you called the police and I have outstanding speeding tickets.”
This floored me. I stared at her. And if y’all know me, you can probably picture all this happening and the look on my face.
I told her, “I’m sorry you are going through that but that isn’t my problem.”
I realized at that moment that this lady saw me as the offender/the bad guy.
I realized at this moment that we are failing as a nation. Our young people don’t see when they are at fault. There is a lack of ownership.
My poor car! She’s had a rough last 30 days! New windshield, new tire, now potentially new bumper.
Can I get a nice break now?
Oh. Recommendation: my rear and front cameras recorded the incident. I highly recommend getting them.
